Some exciting updates on a Thursday afternoon:
1) We’ll Do it Live!
I promise it won’t be like Bill O’Reilly’s famous live “episode”, but next Tuesday at 12:30pm, I’ll be doing my first live Substack program with veteran national political reporter and New Hampshire native Hanna Trudo, who this week made news by publicly saying she is considering running for Congress in New Hampshire First District.
Trudo, a 4th generation New Hampshirite born in Amherst, has written extensively about American politics for The Hill, Politico, National Journal, The New Republic, and more.
We’ll talk about her upbringing and background here in New Hampshire, how her work covering politics has influenced how she sees potentially serving in office, and how might stand out in what may be a crowded primary field seeking to succeed Rep. Chris Pappas, who is running for US Senate.
You should either get an email or (if you are a subscriber through Substack) a Substack notification when we are about to go live with the program. The regular written Substacks have been quickly growing, and there is a growing emphasis on producing video content to further expand our reach, particularly with younger audiences. Put it on your calendar, and watch the program while having your lunch - we hope to see you Tuesday at 12:30pm Eastern time!
2) Update on the “Rebuild & Rise” Summit
We are less than six weeks away from the big “Rebuild & Rise” Summit at Bedford High School in Bedford, NH, on June 14th. I’ve been very pleased with registrations early on, and I’m expecting to have programmatic announcements to make starting late next week. We’ve got hundreds of people already committed, but there’s still plenty of room (a whole high school’s worth of room, actually). A reminder: Early Bird registration is only $40 if you register by May 15th!
Also, if you are an annual paid subscriber to my Substack ($80/yr), not only will you get full video and written content on the Substack website, but you’ll get free registration to the Summit on June 14th! You can become a paid subscriber by going on my Substack page here.
3) “By The Numbers” Sports Podcast is Ready to Watch
It is admittedly a work in progress (pardon a few audio glitches that we will work out), but our first episode of By The Numbers is up! My first guest is Jamie Stuart, an Emmy Award-winning sports journalist of over 20 years on Long Island, and a 30+ year friend of mine from our days together in sportscasting at Syracuse University. We talk about the Knicks/Celtics playoff series (and why the heavily-favored C’s are suddenly in a whole world of trouble); whether the Yankees can stay in the division lead with only two reliable starting pitchers, and why the Red Sox’ best player might be in AAA (Roman Anthony); and then some time comparing notes between a lifelong Jets and Patriots fan (Jamie gets pretty annoyed at me pretty quickly.)
Finally, we discuss how the nature of the sports journalism business has changed over the past 20 years. It turns out, my column about how “you are the media now” is increasingly applying to sports and the rest of journalism, too.
If you like sports, you’ll enjoy this episode. We’ll have it on Spotify and Apple shortly, but you can get the sneak preview on my YouTube channel. Please share this with your sports-loving friends and family - and if they don’t follow politics, even better.
